Some parts of journalism are accepted to be in decline (print as a medium for one) but data is considered to be one of the few areas that will grow. It brings a new edge for finding stories and conveying them in an interesting manner. On the MA course the Data Day bloggers are studying, we have tuition on the basics of data journalism to whet our appetites and prepare us for the future.
City is not the only institution to appreciate the importance of the area. The Columbia School of Journalism has already for seen the link between technology and journalism with their graduate courses. In this video, several faculty members discuss where the profession is heading in a historical context. For a budding data journalist, it provides some hope for the future.
